The Bisley Hire Blog

There’s no set rule as to the amount of time required to plan a wedding, whilst some couples will choose to spend 18 months or longer coordinating their dream day, others organise their perfect wedding in 3 months. Regardless of how much time you choose to spend planning your wedding, organising any event in a marquee can seem like a daunting prospect, so we’ve created a helpful timeline to guide you through some of the key planning stages.

Stage 1 – Initial Ideas

  • Start to envision your wedding day, including the location, the look (are you thinking relaxed rustic, or something more formal?), and draw up a budget
  • Start planning your guest list, getting an idea of the number of people you would like to invite
  • Pick your wedding date (or ideally a couple of options) then check availability with your ceremony venue, marquee provider and other suppliers, and the important guests!

Stage 2 – Planning

  • Think about where your marquee will go, your seating layout (e.g. long or round tables), and any other design ideas or important considerations you would like us to think about when putting together the initial quote
  • Start planning your catering and any entertainment, so their requirements can also be taken into consideration when planning your marquee
  • Consider whether you’ll be having any campers, or a second event the following day, as you may require a larger toilet unit to accommodate the additional guests
  • Once you have an initial quote and CAD drawing for your marquee, arrange a site meeting to measure the site, check access, and discuss your plans in more detail

Stage 3 – Booking

  • Book your marquee, toilets, generator, furniture, and lighting. Once you have paid your 25% deposit, your booking will be confirmed in our diary – don’t worry if your numbers change after this date, we can still make small amendments!
  • Confirm with us any restrictions for building the marquee, for example whether it must be built and removed on certain dates
  • Book your caterers, entertainment, florists, photographer, and any other wedding professionals

Stage 4 – Finishing Touches

  • Confirm with your caterers the size marquee they require, along with any trestle tables, make sure you let us know so we can update your booking
  • If relevant, check with your band the size stage they require, and again make sure you let us know so we can amend the booking if necessary
  • Make sure you’ve planned your finishing touches, such as any soft seating, poseur furniture, outside lighting, walkway matting. The Bisley Marquees & Hire Viewing Weekend is a great opportunity to think about any finishing touches that you may like to add to your booking

Stage 5 – Final Plans

  • We’ll send you a generator form a month before your wedding, please check with your caterer and band / DJ, and any other suppliers for their power requirements and send the form back to us, so we can ensure you’ll have the correct generator and cabling for your event
  • Confirm your final numbers with us, we’ll then send you a final order confirmation for you to double check – if you think there’s anything you may need that’s not on the booking, make sure you let us know now!
  • Once you’ve confirmed you’re happy with everything on your final order confirmation, your balance invoice will be sent two weeks prior to your wedding
  • We will finalise the plans for your marquee build, and delivery of your toilets, fridge trailer, and generator
  • Please make sure you let any other suppliers know the build and removal dates, so they can plan accordingly
  • Enjoy your wedding day!
